Psi Research
The scientific study of psychic phenomena: remote viewing, telepathy, precognition, and more. Explore what decades of controlled research has revealed.
What is psi research?
Psi research (also called parapsychology) is the scientific investigation of psychic phenomena—experiences that suggest the mind can perceive information or influence the physical world through means not explained by current scientific understanding.
The term "psi" (Ψ, the 23rd letter of the Greek alphabet) was adopted in 1942 to provide a neutral scientific term for these phenomena, avoiding loaded words like "supernatural" or "paranormal."
Receptive psi (ESP)
- • Telepathy (mind-to-mind)
- • Clairvoyance (remote perception)
- • Precognition (future knowledge)
Expressive psi (PK)
- • Psychokinesis (mind over matter)
- • Bio-PK (influence on living systems)
- • Micro-PK (subtle effects)
Major research programs
Stanford Research Institute (SRI)
1972-1995Focus: Remote viewing
Demonstrated consistent above-chance results in thousands of controlled sessions
Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR)
1979-2007Focus: Mind-matter interaction
28 years of data showing small but consistent effects on random event generators
Ganzfeld Research
1974-presentFocus: Telepathy
Meta-analyses show ~32% hit rate vs 25% expected by chance
Presentiment Studies
1990s-presentFocus: Precognition
Physiological responses to future emotional stimuli detected seconds before presentation
The evidence
Multiple independent meta-analyses have concluded that psi effects are statistically real, even if small. Key findings include:
- ✓Statistical significance: Effects consistently exceed chance expectations across thousands of trials and multiple labs
- ✓Replication: Effects have been replicated by independent researchers using different methodologies
- ✓Robust protocols: Modern studies use double-blind conditions, automated systems, and pre-registration
Jessica Utts (1995): "Using the standards applied to any other area of science, it is concluded that psychic functioning has been well established."
Contributing to psi research
Social RV is building the world's largest dataset of verified remote viewing sessions. Every session you complete contributes to consciousness research:
- •Blind protocols — All sessions are submitted before target reveal
- •Timestamped verification — Blockchain-backed proof of session timing
- •Open data — Platform-wide statistics available to researchers
- •Large sample size — Thousands of sessions for robust analysis
